The Power of Touch
Two powerful concepts come together in the link to the left. The study involves the power of touch (caring) and epigenetics. Newborn children were separated into groups that were touched a lot, while others were neglected. Gene expression was monitored in these children and it was found that those that were touched a lot showed genetic changes leading to improvements in the immune system and metabolic systems. While this study only involved 100 children, changes in genetic expression show the power of touch (caring or love) to our genes. Holistic medicine is not a "feel good" concept as established medicine would assert. It is the acceptance that what we eat, how we feel and how we move change our gene expression.
